Osteoderms or scutes, are bony plates embedded underneath the skin providing protectionas well as aiding in temperature regulation. 
 
Alligator scute amulets have been worn for protection from evil to illness…they are considered a good luck talisman.
 
This tropical pendant is adorned with clay frangipani fimos, Greek ceramic and silver plated beads.
