Water Buffalo Horn
Naga Morsarang
Medicine Carrier
The Batak datu or high priest used a variety of containers to store magical substances for ritual potions.
The hollow water buffalo horn vessel is known as a sahang or naga morsarang medicine holder.
A carved camphor wood stopper depicts riders upon a singa/supernatural protection deity.
The human figures may represent the succession of ritual masters who preceded the datu who owned the container...
The pointed end of the horn features a seated human figure.
Ornately etched water buffalo horn container is approximately 16" in length from tip to tip.
Interior: 2.5" x 2"
A wooden pin is used to secure the top to the horn.
You will receive the item in the photograph.
