The River of Grass

Florida's River of Grass

In 1947, Marjory Stoneman Douglas wrote The Everglades: River of Grass.

It was published the same year that President Harry Truman dedicated Everglades National Park.

"The miracle of light pours over the green and brown expanse of saw grass and of water, shining and slowly moving,

the grass and water that is the meaning and the central fact of the Everglades. It is a river of grass."

"There are no other Everglades in the world. They are, they have always been, one of the unique regions of the earth; remote, never wholly known. Nothing anywhere else is like them."

She was a champion of conservation until her death in 1998 at the age of 108.

We chose a play on the words and named our business Grassy River Trading Company.

We too, care about our state, it's flora and fauna.

At the end of the day, we try not to take ourselves too seriously or stress over the little things.

But instead, we find ourselves longing to be outdoors and having fun in the sun...

"All we need, really, is a change from a near frigid to a tropical attitude of the mind."

--Marjory Stoneman Douglas

Our thoughts exactly.
